SLAPBACK TO THE FUTURE

This album contains a collection of songs that were written and recorded for a project where Dutch guitarist/songwriter BJ Baartmans went deep to explore his roots.as a contemporary 'Americana' player.
Most of the songs where used in two guitar courses that BJ put together for the American based company True Fire, a major manifacturer in this field.
And this soul searching adventure also led to the launching of a brand new trio around the 53 year old Dutch guitarist: The Space Age Travellers, with Gerco Aerts on bass and Sjoerd van Bommel on drums.

In this line up they recorded the album @VENTURES IN THE SHADOWS (release Nov 2018). The first official Space Age Travellers album.

Here you find the recordings BJ and drummer Sjoerd made in Studio Wild Verband, Boxmeer, to set the band up: finding the sweet spots, getting into the groove and rumble!
The results we think are so much fun and exciting we decided to set them free and launch them into space. So there you go!

The music is a hommage to the great pickers of the fifties and before, the cats that inspired the guitar heroes of the Sace Age like Cliff Gallup, Jimmy Bryant, Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, James Burton, Scotty Moore and Chuck Berry. Echoes (slapback!) of rockabilly, jazz, western swing, country and blues resonate.
But more than that, it also proves that these 'good old' sounds and playing styles can be vibrant as ever, as players still going strong like Jeff Beck, Brian Setzer, Jim Campilongo or Bill Frisell show.
The Space Age Travellers pick up on that. With pride and Joy.
